Rainy Days & Creativity

The chilly days of fall are already upon us. I enjoyed the warm summer with lots of rain. On rainy days I look out the window of my studio and listen to the patter on the roof. Living in the country, I can see for miles, but some days the rain comes down so hard I can barely see the street in front of our farm.

I wonder how the days will be in the winter. For several years we’ve moved to our ranch in Texas for the winter. I have a smaller studio there, and I’m always afraid I’m going to forget to pack something I really need. It’s a long trip back to the farm in Iowa, so I have to be organized. This has been about organization for me. And sticking to a schedule, but that’s another post.

I welcome the rain, and sometimes I’m distracted by it, but I think windy, rainy days are great for sketching, painting and writing. I don’t feel like I’m missing out by being inside, and my imagination works overtime. I’m lucky to be an artist and writer for a living. My days are filled with imagination.

If you could be anything you wanted, what would you be? Do rainy days give you inspiration to?
